Symbolic Still Life (Portrait) Brainstorming
For this project, I first started thinking about the group of people I would be representing. I thought about my family and friends, and even my skating teammates. I figured the easiest to do was my family. I thought about my sister, who is a horseback rider, and my brother who is very Jewish. I figured that would be easy to portray. But I also needed to think about my parents, and my other brother. My mom has a love for New York and Broadway shows which is something we have in common.

Visiting Artist Hamlett Dobbins
I found this painting in his "the river beneath us" collection. This painting depicted a blue shape on top of a bunch of bright colored lines. This painting stood out to me because the blue shape really stood out to me. He did a great job of making it the center of the piece.

Blindfold Drawings
Being blindfolded was a real challenge. Not being able to see what you are drawing made me nervous, mostly because I like everything to be just right. I was very hesitant about making a mark with my pencil because I was unsure of where the mark would be in accordance to everything else. One thing I thought was interesting though, was that it hindered my ability to picture the place I was thinking of more clearly. Instead of maybe just closing my eyes for a second to picture what I wanted to draw, and not being able to open my eyes to see my drawing, really made me picture more of my imagination, rather than what was on the paper. I felt the outcome of this drawing was not as bad as I expected, especially because we got to go over with more detail with our eyes opened.
