Final Relfection

This term has worked out very well for me I would say. This is the first time I have had to work on multiple art projects at the same time, and at first, I found it very challenging. We would start project after project and it became hard to keep up with it all. I think overall, coming up with an idea has been my main struggle throughout all four of these projects. Once I get an idea, the rest is easy. Looking ahead, in order to continue to grow as an artist, I definitely need to start learning to brainstorm ideas and concepts for a piece of art. Throughout this term, I found that searching the Internet, taking pictures, and talking about ideas for a project really helped get all the work that needed to be done. I was able to catch up with all of my projects which is one thing that surprised me. I honestly did not think I was going to get every project done, but I managed to organize my time and make it work.

Heroes Project Brainstorm

People magazine covers normally depict celebrities for their achievements/"heroic acts". I explored the idea of creating a magazine cover with an actual hero on it (for example: a firefighter, a soldier, or even an average person who did a good deed). For this it would be considered ironic to have an actual hero on the cover of a People magazine. The other idea I explored was putting a celebrity (Taylor Swift) on the cover, but playing with the headline and making it something completely ridiculous. Something that makes fun of the fact that even though to some she may seem like a "hero", she actually is not, and is only advertised to look like one through the public eye.

Windows & Doors Brainstorming

For this project I am focusing on light and dark. The light from the window creating a happy, hopeful feeling, compared to the darkness of the rest of the room.

Symbolic Still Life (Portrait) Brainstorming

For this project, I first started thinking about the group of people I would be representing. I thought about my family and friends, and even my skating teammates. I figured the easiest to do was my family. I thought about my sister, who is a horseback rider, and my brother who is very Jewish. I figured that would be easy to portray. But I also needed to think about my parents, and my other brother. My mom has a love for New York and Broadway shows which is something we have in common.

Visiting Artist Hamlett Dobbins

I found this painting in his "the river beneath us" collection. This painting depicted a blue shape on top of a bunch of bright colored lines. This painting stood out to me because the blue shape really stood out to me. He did a great job of making it the center of the piece.
